Shawna’s speciality and passion is in supporting children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Shawna works with a range of concerns including self-worth, shame, anxiety, depression, trauma, violence, substance use, chronic pain, and grief. She also has experience working with youth and young adults with neurodiversities.

Bria is a Registered Clinical Counsellor specializing in supporting individuals and families with self-worth, trauma, and emotional healing. She collaborates with clients to explore and transform negative beliefs about themselves and challenges in relationships, helping them reconnect with their inherent worth and create more meaningful connections with others.
Using a compassionate, client-centered approach, Bria integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Narrative Therapy to support emotional healing and personal growth. IFS, in particular, helps clients identify and nurture the parts of themselves that have been hurt or neglected, leading to greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and transformation.
Bria has over 10 years of experience working with individuals and families navigating complex dynamics, including those related to developmental disabilities and neurodiversity. Her work examines feelings of inadequacy, negative beliefs, and how societal biases impact personal and relational experiences.
In her counselling practice, Bria focuses on helping clients shift unhelpful patterns, improve relationships, and move toward lasting change—empowered with more confidence and a deeper sense of self-acceptance.

Christina is experienced and passionate about supporting individuals and families! She has over 20 years’ experience in the field working with individuals and families as they experience and navigate complex challenges. Christina uses her extensive experience to understand behaviours linked to coping with trauma, anxiety, depression, addictions, grief, and relationships. She has a vast knowledge base in child development and neurodiversity and is trained in positive practices in behaviour support. She believes that behaviour is a form of communication and often significantly impacts relationships, sometimes leaving individuals, couples, and families feeling confused and disconnected from those they care for the most.
Her genuine, thoughtful approach puts clients at ease, creating feelings of safety and trust. Christina’s approach is individualized to her clients' needs, values, and goals. She utilizes evidence-based techniques, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman Method for Couples and Families, Solution Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Ashley is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education Counselling. For more than 10 years she has worked as either an educator or counsellor in elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education systems supporting both students and families.
Ashley has extensive experience working with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, depression, generational trauma, stress, relationship conflict, parental support, and life transitional events. She uses a holistic model to support healing while providing a person-centered approach.
Ashley is a proud Indigenous Secwépemc woman from Secwépemc'ulucw and has a passion for supporting Indigenous people through adversity. She prides herself in providing an environment of curiosity and support to ensure all her clients feel heard and seen in their sessions with her. Ashley works with women of all ages.

Nicole Arnould, RSW, RCC

Grounded in a feminist framework, Nicole is a social justice-oriented, anti-oppressive practitioner committed to providing dignity-driven, person-centred care through an anti-violence lens. Her approach integrates multiple therapeutic modalities, including Narrative Therapy, Hakomi, EMDR, CBT, Aboriginal Family Systems, and specialized expertise in assessing and treating intimate partner violence.
Nicole practices on the traditional, unceded territories of the Secwepemc Peoples. Having spent most of her life in Kamloops and adolescence in Iqaluit, Nunavut, she has cultivated a deep connection to the land and the diverse communities that have shaped her.
With over 30 years of experience, Nicole brings a comprehensive approach to therapy that includes one-on-one client support, family counselling, clinical supervision, and group facilitation. Nicole’s expertise spans risk assessment for violence, working with adjudicated high-risk offenders and supporting victims of violence. Holding dual designations in Social Work and Clinical Counseling, Nicole has also dedicated 15 years to senior leadership roles within the nonprofit sector. She has excelled in developing responsive programs, fostering practice groups, and implementing evidence-based, results-driven practices. Her work is rooted in empowering individuals and creating meaningful, sustainable change.
In addition to client work, Nicole is passionate about practitioner development. She offers case conceptualization, consultation, clinical supervision, and leadership development while supporting structural and organizational change to foster client-centred services. Shannon is the founder and Clinical Director of Currents Counselling, where she leverages over a decade of post-masters experience to support couples and families. With a deep understanding of relationship dynamics, she has worked extensively with highly conflicted couples, those navigating separation and divorce, and families facing complex issues. Her background includes addressing concerns related to violence and conducting clinical risk assessments.
Recognizing that each relationship is unique, Shannon employs a collaborative approach tailored to the specific needs of the couples and families she serves. This emphasis on individualization allows her to provide effective support and facilitate healing in her client’s most important relationships.
In addition to her direct counselling services, Shannon is certified to complete risk assessments and Section 211 Reports, such as Hear the Child and Views of the Child, available in Kamloops, Salmon Arm, and virtually. She is also an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, enhancing her commitment to guiding emerging professionals in the field.

Christine is joining Currents Counselling as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) internship student.
Christine is interested in her clients through such modalities as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Narrative Therapy. However, Christine is also open to working with other modalities that align with the client’s personality and needs.
Christine has experience providing a safe, non-judgmental atmosphere for individuals in crisis situations. She takes a person-centred approach to help clients explore their struggles and strengths and focuses on creating a warm, supportive, and collaborative environment to help her clients feel respected and heard. Christine values the unique lived experiences of each individual and is passionate about uncovering confidence and resilience. Christine’s belief in the ability of individuals to overcome challenges and obstacles can help to instill hope in her clients.

Amy Fonseca MACP Intern

Amy is joining Currents Counselling as a Master of Arts and Counselling Psychology internship student. During her internship she will be supervised by experienced counsellors, ensuring that she provides exceptional care to each of her clients. Amy has a BA and a BEd and has taught various age groups for the past 17 years in Montreal, Vancouver and Kamloops. She is currently a Theatre Arts and Film teacher with South Kamloops Secondary School.
Amy loves to work with people to promote growth, understanding and confidence. She is looking forward to exploring different modalities, and has a particular interest in narrative, gestalt and group therapies. Amy is empathetic and warm but also likes to challenge people. She believes in the recognition worth of every individual as a starting point for all relationships.

Kasha Mitton, MACP Intern

Kasha is a passionate healthcare professional with over 20 years of experience, currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Counselling. Her roles as a bedside RN, Clinical Educator, Director of Care, and Mental Health Complex Behaviour Specialist, helped shape her socially just and person-centered approach. Through these experiences, Kasha has developed a deep sense of compassion, and a profound understanding of the complexities people face.
As a driving force in developing policies and leading care initiatives, Kasha emphasizes the importance of recognizing intersectionality, intergenerational trauma, and acculturative stress. Her passion for education has led her to create core programs focused on trauma-informed practice and person-centered care. Her certification in health coaching sparked an interest in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), while her extensive work in palliative care has deepened her understanding of grief, loss, and existentialism.
Kasha is known for her vibrant energy and relational approach, creating an emotional environment that fosters trust, safety, and respect. She embraces a holistic biopsychosocial lens, ensuring that her clients feel truly seen, heard, and valued. Kasha’s commitment to service extends beyond healthcare; she is also a wellness advocate certified in yoga, fitness, meditation, and dance. Megan is joining Currents Counselling as a Master of Counselling internship student.
Megan is interested in Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy but is looking forward to working with a diverse team at Currents Counselling and exploring a range of modalities to learn what fits best for her clients.
Megan has experience working with parents in supporting children’s mental health and a passion for working with children, youth, adults, and families. Megan has been inspired to work in the mental health field for as long as she can remember and is excited to begin her journey as an intern counsellor with Currents. Megan carries an open and authentic energy and strives to meet her clients with a genuine presence, ready to listen, support, and empower them in their healing. Megan loves to bring a little bit of “human” into the space, recognizing us all for our uniqueness and diversity while embracing the non-linear path that is therapy.
In her own time, Megan might be found on the golf course, curled up with a good book, or adventuring with her dog! Megan moved to BC in 2020 and loves to continue learning about and exploring her new home.

Office Manager
Melody is the Office Manager for Currents Counselling. She has diverse experiences that include legal administration, sales, owning her own business and working with vulnerable populations. In her work with vulnerable populations Melody has supported elderly and those with unique needs and abilities, including neurodivergent individuals.
Melody has a kind and compassionate approach to life and understands the importance of being kind while supporting others whether in an administrative position or working one-on-one with individuals who require patience, kindness and compassion. She has a passion for helping others who experience barriers and is eager to find new ways to make life more enjoyable for those with unique needs and abilities.
